21st April 2011, Thurs. 11:30am - Intermediate Freestyle (TGCR).

Students in this class arrived late today too so it looks like the 'day' is continuing as such :) I started the class off with our last routine - RAIN IS COMING and everyone gave me a decent performance which encouraged me to start on something new this week. After asking for opinions from the ladies, a ballad was chosen for the next routine. The song I selected was IF A PROMISE AINT ENOUGH sung by Hall & Oats. I had previously already created a routine to this song, but had used a variation of it for another song so I decided to create a brand new routine for this lovely song. This one's going to be tough girls but not impossible.

21st April 2011, Thurs. 9:45am - Advance Freestyle (TGCR).

It was one of those days when the students all arrived late. A brief discussion was also held to decide if the majority wanted to stop warming up with old routines and use a cardio routine each week. The majority voted to continue using the dances learnt this year to warm up in order to remember the routines. So, after our warm up, we continued to work on our GLEE THRILLER routine which has reached an interesting pattern that I'm trying for the first time. Thanks for taking on the challenge girls. It's getting interesting :D

20th April 2011, Wed. 8:30pm - Intermediate Line Dance (RCS).

I taught my latest dance - TALLER, STRONGER, BETTER danced to the song of the same name sung by Guy Sebastian. I had originally started the choreography with this group last year but got interrupted by several events that took our hall away from us. Was glad to finish it with them at last and everyone learnt it rather quickly as the first half of the dance was still somewhere in the recesses of their memories. Thanks everyone.

20th April 2011, Wed. 10am - Intermediate Reviser Line Dance (RSGC).

We continued to work on my latest piece - TALLER, STRONGER, BETTER and worked out the restarts over the 7 walls of the dance. Thanks ladies for your dedication to your dance and for helping me work thru this dance.

19th April 2011, Tues. 8:30pm - Low Intermediate Dance Fit (RCS).

Class called off today due to low attendance. Most students feeling unwell. Get well soon everyone.

18th April 2011, Mon. 10am - Intermediate Line Dance (RSGC).

Today I taught the ladies my latest line dances - TALLER, STRONGER, BETTER which is danced to the song of the same name sung by Guy Sebastian. Its a 72 count [12/6], 2 wall, waltz line dance with 3 restarts. I've wanted to do a dance to this moving & inspirational piece for quite a while now. The first six bars were choreographed earlier this year but I never got around to finishing it, so I did what I usually have to do to make myself finish it - include it in a class album. I will get the step sheet written sometime this week and post it for you.

START AGAIN & HAVE A SEXY FUN TIME

Intermediate Freestyle - RAIN IS COMING sung by Rain

This is the completed Rain Is Coming routine which is a 64 counts, 4 wall Freestyle-In-Line. This clip shows the girls dancing the first 4 walls. Remember, we'll be working on this for many more months to come to gain stamina & smoothness.

14th April 2011, Thurs. 11:30am - Intermediate Freestyle (TGCR).

Since we finished our RAIN IS COMING routine last week, its time for the hard work of polishing the routine and working out all the chinks and technique issues. Several of the new ladies came in tired which did not help their ability to follow this tedious but necessary part of learning to dance but I guess its a learning curve for them. Don't worry girls, you'll get into the groove of things by the end of 3 months. Hang in there. The original ladies of this group stayed back to run thru our SO HOT routine and asked some really good questions to help them understand the moves. Well done darlings. I'll video this routine next week and release the step sheet too.
Advance Freestyle - HOLLYWOOD sung by Lumidee

This is the finished routine for Hollywood. It has 4 bars (intro) + 4 bars (1st verse) + 4 bars (chorus) + 4 bars (2nd verse with grouping) + 4 bars (final chorus)

14th April 2011, Thurs. 9:45am - Advance Freestyle (TGCR).

Lots of practice today after we finished our warm up. We worked on SEXY SIGNORINA, LATIN LOVER, HOLLYWOOD and then continued adding to THRILLER/HEADS WILL ROLL.
13th April 2011, Wed. 8:30pm - Intermediate Line Dance (RCS).

I taught THINKING OF U by Wanda Heldt today. As with the other class, it was an easy teach as the steps are straight forward. A couple of the ladies lock stepped the triple turns but the rest managed the dance as written without much problem. We had enough time to revise CHA CHA ROMO & FOUND SOMEONE.
13th April 2011, Wed. 10am - Intermediate Reviser Line Dance (RSGC).

Good workout today with the ladies. We started by running thru this week's new dance of course, which was HEATING UP, and we danced it 3 times to help it stick. We then went backwards and did a great workout with THINKING OF U, WHAT U WAITING FOR, BURLESQUE & HIGH OFF UR VIBE. Thanks ladies.

12th April 2011, Tues. 8:30pm - Low Intermediate Dance Fit (RCS).

Started a little late today due to unusually heavy traffic in PJ. However, we did end up having an extremely long class today as we finished off learning our newest routine, SUMMER NIGHTS [6/8]. I had decided to to use our strength training format for the rest of the class but as i had switched off the music I did not have an audible guide to the time so I really got into it with technique and balance and we ended up having class till 11:30pm :D :D I hope everyone had a great sleep but woke up in time to get to work. See you next week.

11th April 2011, Mon. 10am - Intermediate Line Dance (RSGC).

Today we learnt HEATING UP by Kischa which is danced to the song Summer Nights by Rascal Flatts. This is what i call 'country pop' and i find this genre very likeable and danceable too. Kischa gave us an easy but not simple routine which made the ladies have to think about which way to turn a couple of time. I'm sure everyone will do much better during our reviser class on Wed. We picked this routine up fairly quickly which left us time to run thru last weeks routine Thinking Of U before we wrapped up class.

9th April 2011, Sat. 3pm - Latin Basics (RSGC).

We were very happy to see Mr Lim & Siew Leng back in class today after a long absence due to ill health. We used our Cha Cha & Rumba practice routines today with 3 speeds each and managed to get better results then last week. I appreciate the hard work everyone. It looks like we can start working on our syllabus patterns next week. Thanks all.

7th April 2011, Thurs. 11:30am - Intermediate Freestyle (TGCR).

We had a couple of ladies missing today but we had a great time anyway. I taught the final bar of our RAIN IS COMING routine and we worked really hard to put it all together. At the end of class we managed to actually dance the whole routine, well most of us did. Don't worry ladies, we perfect it over the next few weeks as we work on new stuff. Also at the end of class I ran some of the ladies thru our previous routine SO HOT as I'd finished writing the step sheet for it and wanted to teach them some of the adjustments I'd made to fit the step sheet. I like this particular routine as its quite sassy. I hope to share it with everyone soon.

7th April 2011, Thurs. 9:45 am - Advance Freestyle (TGCR).

Great class today. We had a successful warm up with FRIM FRAM, ICE CREAM & BREATHLESS. We ran thru our LATIN MEDLEY, TEMPORARY HOME & HOLLYWOOD to continue improving it. We then went into our current routine of THRILLER/HEADS WILL ROLL and I added on two more staggered, contrasting bars. Its slow going with this routine as everyone has to follow their own individual timing as well as maintain pattern but the girls are taking on the challenge well. I did bring my camera today but totally forgot to film as we ran a little late as we worked hard to get things right. Good work girls
6th April 2011, Wed. 8:30pm - Intermediate Line Dance (RCS).

We learnt CHA CHA ROMO by Gordon Timms & Alison Johnstone which is danced to the old but much loved cha cha song Todo Todo Todo by Daniele Romo. I have a great attachment to this song as it bring back many memories of my early years in competitive Latin American dance. It used to be a very popular piece for the Novice level. This group particularly likes cha cha rhythms so we all enjoyed this dance which was simply and basic. I liked the unexpected knee pop in the 3rd bar which was totally unexpected as the rest of the routine was very classic. Thank you Gordon & Alison.
6th April 2011, Wed. 10am - Intermediate Reviser Line Dance (RSGC).

I cancelled class today as my youngest son was ill. Sorry ladies. See you next week.
5th April 2011, Tues. 8:30pm - Low Intermediate Dance Fit (RCS).

Today we used WAIT A MINUTE as our warm up, learnt half of SUMMER NIGHTS and use 4 MINUTES as our stamina builder. We had a lovely stretch before we moved into our upper & lower body. Our abs section worked our upper & lower today at 4 levels and we worked at the stamina building level. We of course finished off with our cool down. If anyone wants the step sheets to the cardio routines, check out the 'discussions' tab on the top of this page or the blog at guruofdance. blogspot.com
4th April 2011, Mon. 10am - Intermediate Line Dance (RSGC).

Our new member decided to join us on Mondays and we warmly welcomes Li Lian into our little group. We learnt THINKING OF U by Wanda Heldt danced to the song Thinking of You by Chris Rea. I have never heard of this singer before but my partner knows of him and was delighted to hear him after a long time. Wanda chose to choreograph this dance as a smooth, rumba like routine with holds on the 4th & 8th counts of most bars. It does work and it allows the students time to think of their next set. I personally would have preferred to dance it more lyrically with fewer holds but this style does allow one to enjoy the music and listen to the lyrics which are rather soulful. Thank you Wanda, we enjoyed it.
