From the desk of Ms B

SUPPLEMENT WATCH

Does Dong Quai Cool Hot Flashes ?

The Research : Dong Quai (Angelica Sinensis) is a traditional Chinese herb used for mentrual and menopausal complaints. When Israeli researchers gave an herbal blend containig dong quai to 25 women, 47% said their hot flashes disappeared, compared with 19% in a placebo group. But the formula also contained black cohosh, which some studies suggest can quell hot flashes as well. So it's impossible to know what part, if any, dong quai.

Should I Take It ? : Look for a multiple-herb formula with chaste-tree berry, black cohosh, red clover, American ginseng & milk thistle, the other ingredients in the Israeli supplement.

Bottom Line : Dong quai may help only as part of an herhal blend.

Note from Ms B : I have had several students who have taken or are taking the Amway supplement with contains Dong Quai, Black Cohosh & Soya Beans and they all report benefits. Most were also taking daily amounts of fresh soya milk or soya products at the same time.
